The world record holder executed an impressive race throughout but ultimately settled for second behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who achieved gold with a national record of 12.24 seconds.
American athlete Grace Stark finished with the bronze in 12.34 seconds, while Masai Russell placed fourth with a time of 12.44 seconds.
At 28 years old, Amusan was seeking to reclaim the world title she won in Oregon in 2022, marking a historic milestone as the first Nigerian and African to capture the 100m hurdles crown.

Although she did not clinch gold this time, her silver medal further embellishes her distinguished résumé, which includes a world record of 12.12 seconds, several Diamond League victories, and a Commonwealth Games title.
Nigeria’s hopes for additional hardware in Tokyo now rest with Ezekiel Nathaniel, who advanced to the semifinals of the men’s 400m hurdles event.
Nathaniel, a 21-year-old emerging talent in African athletics, recorded a time of 48.37 seconds to secure his position.
He displayed remarkable composure throughout his heat, finishing strongly to emerge from a competitive field. Nathaniel aims to progress past Wednesday’s semifinal stage with aspirations of medaling in the final.
