The Imo State government has assured the public that it is doing everything within its power to secure the safe release of a former state House of Assembly member, Ngozi Ogbu, who was abducted a week ago.
The state government also condemned in the strongest terms the brazen and lawless act that led to the abduction of Ogbu, a former chairman of Okigwe Local Government Area and former member of the Imo State House of Assembly.
It stated that in concert with the security agencies, the state government has activated all necessary mechanisms to ensure Ogbu’s prompt and safe return.
While these efforts are ongoing, the state government urged politicians, especially those who have in the past fanned the flames of insecurity in the state, to desist from making political capital out of the ex-lawmaker’s ordeal.

In a statement issued on Monday, the state government, through the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, stated that such comments or actions not only trivialise his suffering but could further endanger his life.
The politicisation of a matter involving the life of a husband, father, and fellow citizen is, to say the least, deeply unconscionable.
The Imo State government reiterated its unwavering commitment to the protection of life and property and will continue to work tirelessly to keep the state safe.
