The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) has commended the collaborative efforts of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), veterinarians and other stakeholders in combating animal diseases across the country.
‎
‎Director and Head of Animal Quarantine Department, NAQS, Dr. Emeka Asiegbu gave the commendation on Saturday in Abuja.
‎
‎It was on the sidelines of a training for veterinarians, para-vets and community animal health workers.
‎
‎The training, organised by L-PRES, is aimed at strengthening the capacity of frontline professionals in disease detection, control, eradication strategies and awareness creation on livestock diseases.
‎
‎It also sought to enhance synergy among veterinarians, para-veterinarians and community animal health workers for a more coordinated and effective national response to livestock health challenges.
‎
‎According to Asiegbu, animal health services in the country have recorded remarkable improvement in recent years compared to previous periods.

“We have more professionals, including young people, who are eager to bring an end to the menace of animal diseases, which remain a major contributor to human health challenges.
‎
‎“The training is strategic, timely and laudable because this is what we need at this point in time, bringing everyone together in terms of animal and public health disease control and prevention.
‎
‎“So, if we all work together, veterinarians, para-vets and community animal health workers will achieve success,” he said.
‎
‎Asiegbu advised participants to apply the knowledge gained from the training in their daily practice, even at grassroots level, to strengthen prevention, surveillance, control and eradication of livestock diseases nationwide.
