The Chairman of Boki Local Government Area in Cross River State, Hon. Beatrice Etta Nyiam, has vowed to clamp down on the rising wave of drug abuse and peddling in the council, warning that landlords who accommodate drug dealers will also be held accountable.

Speaking during a peace-building engagement with stakeholders of Buda Ward at Kachuan Irruan, Hon. Nyiam expressed concern over the alarming spread of hard drugs in rural communities. She charged traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to expose offenders and ensure they are handed over to law enforcement agencies.

“We must leave no stone unturned in this fight. Offenders, regardless of age or gender, must face the full wrath of the law. Drug abuse is destroying our youths and communities, and we will not sit back and watch,” the council boss declared.

Nyiam assured that her administration would work closely with communities to establish long-term solutions to drug abuse, promising stronger partnerships between government and grassroots leaders.

Vice Chairman of the council, Hon. Lawrence Obi Akan, reinforced her position, stressing that landlords who shelter drug peddlers are fueling the crisis. He called on residents to support the fight and deny criminals safe havens in their homes.

Adding his voice, retired Assistant Inspector General of Police and Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Mr. John Abang, said the war against drugs must go beyond the police. “The fight against illicit drug abuse cannot be won by security agencies alone. Communities must take ownership, guide their youths, and work hand in hand with security operatives to build a safer, resilient society,” he said.

Divisional Police Officer of Boki, Oden Arikpo, also pledged full cooperation from the police, urging residents to trust law enforcement with credible information. “The police are always ready to work with the people,” he assured.

With the council leadership, security agencies, and local communities now aligning, Boki is bracing for an aggressive crackdown on drug peddlers and their collaborators.
