The Federal Government has officially begun the full rollout of the 1Government Cloud (1Gov) Digitalisation Project, a landmark initiative aimed at transforming Nigeria’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) into a fully paperless system.
According to Kamorudeen Yusuf, Personal Assistant on Special Duties to the President, the project is being implemented by Galaxy Backbone Limited under the Sovereign Digitalisation Programme. The 1Gov platform introduces a suite of secure digital tools, including GovDrive, GovMail, GovE-Sign, GovConference, and GovAsset Management. These platforms are designed to streamline approvals, strengthen data sovereignty, enhance accountability, and improve collaboration across government institutions.
Officials say the transition will drastically cut costs associated with printing and document storage, improve transparency, and ensure greater security for sensitive government records. It will also accelerate decision-making processes within agencies, eliminating delays tied to manual paperwork.

The project is directly aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which targets 70 percent digitalisation of public services by 2025, with the ambitious goal of achieving a fully paperless civil service by December of the same year.
Analysts describe the 1Gov Cloud rollout as a game-changer that could modernize Nigeria’s governance structure, reduce corruption linked to manual documentation, and position the country among leading nations embracing e-governance. As the government doubles down on digital reforms, the success of this initiative is expected to set the tone for broader technology-driven transformation across the public sector.
