England have been dealt a major setback as Manchester City defender John Stones has withdrawn from the national team squad after sustaining a muscular injury. The 31-year-old arrived at the training camp with what was initially described as a minor issue, but the situation has not improved, forcing manager Thomas Tuchel to release him from duty.
Stones, who has featured in all three of Manchester City’s Premier League matches this season, was expected to play a crucial role in England’s backline during the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Tuchel, however, made it clear that the player’s fitness would not be risked. “He came in with some minor issues, but he hasn’t progressed as we had hoped, so he left the camp this morning,” Tuchel explained.

Despite the setback, England’s manager struck a confident tone as he confirmed that the rest of the squad is fit and available. “We had 21 players in training yesterday and the same today, and we hope to ensure everyone is ready for tomorrow,” he said.
England are set to face Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday before traveling to Belgrade for a tough clash against Serbia on Tuesday. With Stones ruled out, Tuchel is expected to rely on Marc Guehi, Dan Burn, Ezri Konsa, and Jarell Quansah as defensive options.
The loss of Stones will raise fresh concerns for both England and Manchester City, given his importance at club and international level. Fans will now be watching closely to see how England’s reshuffled defense holds up in these crucial fixtures.
