Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has filed a lawsuit against prominent human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, over what his legal team describes as repeated defamatory statements capable of damaging his reputation.
The legal action, instituted through EJESIMEN & CO MADIBA CHAMBERS (SAN), accuses Adeyanju of making false and injurious remarks about Obi, both in public discourse and on his social media platforms. The suit demands a public retraction of the comments alongside an unreserved apology from Adeyanju.
According to Obi’s lawyers, this is not the first time the activist has published damaging remarks against their client, with previous instances documented on his official Twitter handle. They argue that Adeyanju’s conduct amounts to deliberate character assassination, which cannot go unchecked.
The case underscores Obi’s determination to protect his public image at a time when political rhetoric and misinformation remain a potent tool in Nigeria’s heated political space. His legal team insists that the suit serves as a warning that defamatory commentary will not be tolerated and will attract serious consequences under the law.

“Just got this letter from Peter Obi the religious bigot demanding a retraction from me. I laughed so hard. I can’t wait to meet him in court finally. A fraud parading himself as a messiah. We served his little errand girl Serah a letter to retract all her defamatory publications on Monday against my wife & she ran to the leader of the mob for help. Can’t wait to meet him in court.” He stated.
