The indigent women, nursing mothers, and the elderly have benefited from the free medical outreach organised by the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH) for the people of Ebyia Development Centre in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Uzoma Agwu, said the medical outreach was part of the institution’s corporate social responsibility as it seeks to reduce the number of complicated cases referred to tertiary health facilities across the state.
The benefiting community came out in their hundreds with varying degrees of health issues, requiring the attention of medical experts present at the event.
Prof. Agwu explained that the hospital has taken the free medical outreach across the three senatorial districts of the state, stating that the motive is to examine the health status of the people as well as assist those who cannot afford quality healthcare services in the rural areas.
The medical team met with the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Paul Nwophe, informing him of the takeover of a primary health centre at the Ebyia Development Centre by the DUFUTH’s management, for effective and affordable access to healthcare services to the people.

On his part, the Coordinator of Ebyia Development Center, Mr. Stephen Iboko, said the medical outreach came when it was mostly needed, as the people of the development center have to be healthy at all times.
He said he takes joy in seeing members of his community in a healthy condition.
“You can see that DUFUTH is here with different medical experts specializing in different ailments, and they are here attending to different people with different ailments to make them healthy once again,” Iboko explained.
