The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially kicked off its 2025 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) with a colorful road show in Abuja, aimed at sensitizing Nigerians on the importance of registering ahead of the coming elections.
The awareness campaign, which began at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, was flagged off by Hon. National Commissioner, Barr. May Agbamuche Mbu, who represented INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. Addressing the crowd, Barr. Agbamuche Mbu described voter registration as the bedrock of credible elections, urging Nigerians who have just turned 18, those who need to transfer their polling unit, or individuals seeking replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), to take full advantage of the exercise.
She stressed that “no democracy can thrive without credible voter data,” noting that the CVR gives citizens a golden opportunity to take ownership of the electoral process.
Also present at the road show were National Commissioner, Professor Kunle Ajayi, mni; Director of Voter Education and Publicity (VEP), Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi; Deputy Director of Information and Publicity, Mr. Wilfred Ifogal; Deputy Director of Voter Education, Mrs. Paula Iwenjiora; and Deputy Director of the Gender and Inclusivity Department, Mrs. Perpetual Aligwara, alongside other senior INEC officials.

INEC revealed that the online pre-registration portal, cvr.inecnigeria.org, went live on Monday, August 18, 2025, while physical registration will commence on Monday, August 25, 2025, across all INEC State and Local Government offices nationwide.
The Commission clarified that the CVR exercise is strictly for new registrants who have turned 18, Nigerians seeking to transfer their registration, those yet to collect their PVCs, and individuals replacing lost or damaged cards. INEC warned that multiple registration will not be tolerated.
Reassuring Nigerians of its commitment, INEC pledged to uphold inclusivity, transparency, and credibility in the electoral process as the nation prepares for the 2025 general elections.
