Apex Igbo Socio-cultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has said that the aspiration for an Igbo Presidency is not only feasible but realistic in the year 2035.

Ohanaeze stated that in this endeavor, they identified Senator David Umahi as a preeminent candidate among a distinguished cadre of Igbo leaders, including Peter Obi, Ifeanyi Okowa, Pius Anyim, Hope Uzodinma, Chukwuma Soludo, and Rochas Okorocha.

The pan lgbo group noted that It is crucial to recognize that the most viable political vehicle for the actualization of the Igbo presidency is the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the organisation, Our collective ambition to secure the presidency for an individual of Igbo descent hinges on establishing strategic alliances and a foundation of mutual trust with Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups.

In a statement issued on Friday by its factional Deputy- President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Chief Thompson Ohia, National Spokesperson, Ohanaeze stated that this necessitates proper consultations with key geo-political stakeholders to build the necessary bridges for our aspirations.

Part of the statement read “After extensive consultative meetings, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in conjunction with Southeast political leaders, has reached a unanimous resolution.

“It would be politically reckless and detrimental to the collective interests of the Igbo people to field presidential candidates in the 2027 elections against the incumbent President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The resources and political machinery available to the sitting president present formidable challenges that could jeopardize our aspirations.

“In light of these realities, we hereby declare our unwavering support for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, with an expectation that approximately 95% of Igbo votes will be directed toward this cause.

“This endorsement is not merely a political maneuver; it is a strategic decision aimed at fostering stability and cooperation within the Nigerian political landscape. Ohanaeze Ndigbo earnestly advises the Igbo populace to redirect our collective resilience and political energies toward the reconstruction of the Southeast economy.

“We must support the federal government’s ongoing initiatives to address infrastructural deficiencies, particularly the urgent need for the rehabilitation of critical road networks in our region. Furthermore, we must unite in the fight against insecurity, which poses a significant threat to our communities and our collective progress.

“We take pride in the fact that the Igbo nation is endowed with exceptional leadership potential. Our region boasts a plethora of capable presidential aspirants, including Senator David Umahi, Senator Ken Nnamani, Senator Pius Anyim, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Mr. Peter Obi, Senator Hope Uzodinma, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, and Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, among others.

“Each of these individuals possesses the requisite capabilities to transform Nigeria’s fortunes and elevate our nation to the forefront of economic prosperity in Africa. Among this distinguished array of candidates, Senator David Umahi stands out as the most viable contender for the Igbo presidency in 2035.

“His extensive track record of accomplishments as a state governor, his leadership as Chairman of the Southeast Governors Forum, and his service as a Senator and Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria uniquely position him to lead this critical charge.

“As we look to the future, it is anticipated that the rotation of power in Nigeria will see a return to the Northern region following the conclusion of President Tinubu’s tenure in 2031.Consequently, the year 2035 presents a historic opportunity for the Southeast to produce the first Nigerian president of Igbo descent.
