The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has called on the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to revoke the title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland that he recently gave to businessman, Dotun Sanusi.
In a statement released on Monday by the Alaafin’s Media Director, Bode Durojaiye, Owoade expressed that the Ooni’s decision challenges his authority to grant titles within Yorubaland.
He argued that the Ooni’s traditional powers only extend to a specific area, while the Alaafin has the right to award titles throughout the entire Yorubaland.
The Alaafin has demanded that the title given to Sanusi be rescinded within 48 hours, warning that not doing so could lead to serious repercussions.

He emphasized that the Ooni’s action undermines the traditional leadership structure and dismisses the established legal limits on his authority.
Owoade pointed out that the Supreme Court has recognized the Alaafin’s exclusive right to confer titles across the broader region.
He stated that it’s crucial to uphold the rule of law and hold everyone accountable, including leaders like the Ooni.
During a recent visit throughout Yorubaland, the Alaafin also highlighted the importance of peace and unity for the development of the region.
