Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has flagged-off the Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills acquisition training for 100 youths selected from the 13 local government areas of the state.
Performing the flag-off at the Re-Meritona Hotel and Suites, Abakaliki, Gov. Nwifuru, charged the beneficiaries to take the exercise seriously as the state government is taking the initiative to reduce joblessness among the youth.
Gov. Nwifuru, who was represented by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Moses Ije-Ounwa, described the choice of skill development as a way to manoeuvre through life challenges as the idea of giving out cash to unemployed youths had not yielded the expected results.

He urged the beneficiaries to remain focused by putting to good use, the knowledge gained after the training.
“We are flagging-off the training of 100 of our youths today knowing the important of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and how it will help our youths to be self-reliant.
“We urge the beneficiaries to see this opportunity as a way to better their future as the best form of empowerment is showing one how to fish and not giving him fish,” the governor said.
The state Commissioner for Skill Development and Job Creation, Mr. Elijah Okwu-Oko, appreciated the state governor for giving the youths the opportunity to brighten their future through training.
He enjoined the participants to take the training serious as the ministry would ensure that it achieves the target of the training and warned against absenteeism and negligence.
“Ebonyi youths are lucky to have a governor who has interest in raising youths to be the leaders of tomorrow in their different endeavours.
“Governor Francis Nwifuru since assumption of office has trained over 1,000 youths in modern farming, while over 1,000 are enjoying foreign and local scholarships.
“And today, we are raising 100 youths in modern skills acquisition, but they should know that absenteeism will cost whoever the beneficiary is this opportunity if we so find out,” the commissioner warned.
The 3-month training would on ICT, interior design, social media management, and other skills.
