The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel, has conferred its prestigious grand patron award on Senator Ede Dafinone, in recognition of his outstanding commitment to journalism, community development, and public service.

The award, which is reserved for individuals who demonstrate exceptional support for the media and society, celebrates the senator’s humility, exemplary performance, and determination, qualities that have defined his journey from a renowned chartered accountant to a respected political figure in Nigeria.

Sen. Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, expressed his appreciation for the honor during his acceptance speech.

He reiterated his dedication to serving his constituents and the nation, stressing that distractions and media attacks would not derail his mission of bringing meaningful development to the people of Delta Central.

Highlighting some of his key priorities, the senator revealed that he is working diligently to actualize the reopening of the Sapele Port and to facilitate the establishment of a higher institution of learning in the district.

These landmark projects, he said, would not only drive economic growth but also create opportunities for human capital development across the district.

While commending members of the NUJ Sapele Chapel for their professionalism and balanced reportage, Sen. Dafinone emphasized the need for unity among the Urhobo people.

He noted that unnecessary rivalries and the “pull-him-down syndrome” would only hinder progress, urging everyone to contribute positively to the development of the area.

“Let my works speak for me,” he remarked, while also disclosing that he has instructed his media team to ignore social media critics.

The senator further assured journalists of his readiness to collaborate with them in building a better society.

He commended the role of the press in promoting accountability and fostering peace, stressing that his focus would continue to remain on human capital development, an area in which he said his office is already making significant strides.

Chairman of the NUJ Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Nelson Agbajor, lauded Sen. Dafinone for his warm reception despite his busy schedule.

He described the lawmaker as a compassionate leader whose concern for the welfare of his constituents extends beyond statutory obligations.

Agbajor particularly praised Sen. Dafinone’s mediatory role in the recent Opuama crisis, where his intervention contributed to the release of some victims.

The NUJ chairman urged the senator not to relent in his efforts, stressing that there is still much to be accomplished in Delta Central.

He announced that the chapel had passed a vote of explicit confidence on the senator in recognition of his developmental strides and quality leadership.

Agbajor also encouraged journalists to remain steadfast in their professionalism, assuring that the union would continue to support leaders committed to genuine service and the progress of society.
