A policeman who rejected a token of gratification for returning a lost wallet he found in a bus to the owner, has given the credit to his mother for raising him well.

Sergeant Sampson Ekikere of Lagos State Police Command was said to have found a missing wallet belonging
to one Mr Lukman Abaja, containing ATM Cards and other valuables.

The Trumpet gathered that Ekikere after finding the wallet, went to the bank of the owner and explained himself. He asked for the mobile number of the owner and subsequently delivered it with all items intact.

When offered a token of gratification by the owner, Abaja, the policeman declined the offer, saying he just wanted to put smile on the owner’s face.

Surprised at his high standard of ethics and professional conduct, Abaja took to his Facebook timeline to appreciate the officer.

He provided the mobile number of the officer and appealed to his friends and followers to call him (Sergeant Sampson) in appreciation.

Abaja said, “This officer, Sergeant Samson found my wallet containing my ATM cards and other valuables in a bus. He went to my bank and begged to obtain my phone number, he was obliged after several attempts.

“He delivered the wallet with all the contents to me yesterday, 19th March, 2022 and he was offered a token for the selfless service but I was shocked when he rejected the token he was given.

“He was so friendly and calm. I can’t believe we still have this type of officers in Nigerian Police. Please help me thank him.”

The post has triggered a lot of reactions from social media users with many of them commending the selfless service of the officer, describing him as one of the good police officers in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

In his response, Lakpa Isaac said, “We thank God for giving him good mind of forgiveness. In fact, we have many police officers but few can do that. May the Lord Jesus Christ bless him always and change other people also to be like Samson.”

On his part, Bamidele Opayemi said the conduct of the police officer will change the impression of many people about the NPF.

“I think this will change some people’s impression that all policemen are evil. Thanks for the kind gesture my gallant sergeant,” he said.

When contacted by our correspondent, Sergeant Ekikere attributed his good conduct to the training he received from his mum. Adding that he has been putting smiles on people’s faces in his own capacity.

“I have been doing it before, so, I won’t relent. Just that this person decided to celebrate me this way and I was even shocked when I saw it. I pray that God will give me the grace to keep doing it.

“Police as an organization comprises of many people and different, brought up from different background to be honest. We have the good ones and bad ones, accepted. We are brought up from different homes, different backgrounds and have different trainings.

“I give the credit to my mum because she always told me that I should try my best to put smile on somebody’s face. When I saw the wallet, I said ‘if this wallet can get to the owner with the whole contents inside, he will smile’. And that was what I did. Then he tried to offer me something but I said no,” Sergeant Ekikere stated.
