Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), becoming the first indigenous academic to assume the prestigious role in the university’s 64-year history.

The appointment of Prof. Ortuanya was confirmed in an official press release by the institution’s Acting Public Relations Officer, Inya Agha Egwu, who described the selection process as transparent and merit-based.

“The Management of the University of Nigeria is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, a distinguished Professor of Law, as the 16th Vice-Chancellor of the University,” the statement read. It further stated that the Governing Council, under the leadership of its Chairman, Engr. Kayode Ojo, ratified Ortuanya’s appointment on Sunday.
