The Kogi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the immediate suspension of five prominent members, including former House of Representatives member, Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, over what it described as persistent anti-party activities and gross violation of the party’s constitution.

In a press statement released on Monday, August 4, 2025, and signed by the State Chairman, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga, the State Working Committee (SWC) declared that the decision followed extensive deliberations on the “constant and deliberate actions” of some members who contested various positions on the ADC platform during the 2023 general elections but have since undermined the party’s integrity.

The suspension, which takes immediate effect, also affects Dr. Idris Omede, Hon. Johnson Tayo, Lukman Usman Adedayo, and Olabode Kayode. The SWC cited recent developments, particularly a controversial gathering at Harris Hotel in Abuja, where the suspended members allegedly usurped the powers of the party’s leadership and engaged in actions deemed injurious to the unity and constitution of the ADC.

According to the statement, their conduct amounts to insubordination and disloyalty, contravening multiple sections of the party’s constitution, including Article 6 Sections 1, 2, and 4; Article 22 Sections 1, 2, 6, 8, 9, and 10; and Article 32. The party also referenced the oath of office contained in its constitutional schedule, underscoring the gravity of the suspended members’ actions.

The SWC noted that the affected members had been previously invited to clarify their roles following the 2023 Kogi governorship election but failed to honour the invitation, leading to what the party termed a “perpetual breach” of its constitution. Notably, Abejide and his running mate, Dr. Omede were singled out for allegedly leading the internal insubordination that has plagued the state chapter.

The party, however, stated that the suspended members are expected to appear before the ADC National Working Committee (NWC) for further hearing on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the party’s national secretariat located at No. 4 Oyo Street, Area 2, Garki, Abuja, by 12 noon.

In a move aimed at reaffirming internal stability, the Kogi ADC SWC passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of its State Chairman, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga, and State Secretary, John Adaji Udale, commending them for their steadfastness and commitment to the party’s principles.

With political activities already heating up ahead of the 2027 general elections, the ADC’s move in Kogi may signal a wider house-cleaning strategy to realign its ranks and reassert discipline within the party across Nigeria.
