The police in Enugu State have shut an illegal workshop where firearms were being made and repaired in Udi Local Government Area.
During the operation, police officers seized a variety of firearms, including several homemade single-barrel guns, two double-barrel guns, and cartridges (some full and some used).
They also found tools used for repairing guns and three generator sets.
In a statement, police spokesperson in the state, SP Daniel Ndukwe, mentioned that the operation is part of the police’s ongoing efforts to reduce crime, particularly aimed at stopping the spread of illegal firearms.
“The police acted on reliable tips. On June 30, at around 4 pm, a special police team conducted a raid at the workshop located in the Amofia-Agu Affa community.
“The operation was prompted by the arrest of a suspect named Ekene Okafor, who is 32 years old and a member of a local gang called the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.

“He was arrested for various crimes, including robbery and illegal possession of guns, and he revealed information that led the police to the workshop.
“When the police arrived at the workshop, the owner fled the scene. Authorities are currently searching for this individual,” the police said.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Giwa, praised the police team for the successful operation and reassured the public that the police are dedicated to fighting illegal firearms and related crimes.
He encouraged the community to stay alert, follow the law, and continue to share information with the police when they see something suspicious.
