Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has lifted the 24-hour curfew imposed on Lamurde Local Government Area after two days of intense security lockdown triggered by violent clashes between the Chibo and Bachama communities. The curfew, which was enforced over the weekend, followed a surge in communal tensions that led to the destruction of at least 33 thatched huts and three major buildings, according to reports from the state police command.

Governor Fintiri announced the relaxation of the curfew on Monday, allowing residents to resume movement between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily, following a comprehensive security assessment that indicated improved stability in the area. The move signals a return to cautious normalcy in the once-volatile communities as the government continues efforts to restore lasting peace.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, Governor Fintiri reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful coexistence and development across the state. He called on residents to embrace dialogue, mutual respect, and tolerance to prevent further violence.

“Peace is the foundation of development. No society can thrive in the face of disunity and destruction. I urge all parties to put aside their differences and work toward a more united and prosperous Lamurde,” the governor stated.

Despite lifting the curfew, Governor Fintiri has directed security agencies to maintain 24-hour surveillance in the area to forestall any resurgence of violence. He stressed that government will not tolerate any action that threatens the safety of lives and property.

The governor also called on residents to support the efforts of security operatives by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities. He emphasized that collaboration between the government, security forces, and the people is key to ensuring peace and rebuilding trust within the affected communities.

Governor Fintiri’s swift intervention and continued engagement with local stakeholders have been credited with diffusing further escalation, reinforcing his administration’s reputation for decisive leadership in times of crisis. As Lamurde reopens under cautious watch, hopes are high that the communities involved will heed the governor’s appeal and work together to foster reconciliation and sustainable peace.

This latest development in Lamurde underscores the urgent need for community-based conflict resolution and inclusive dialogue as part of broader efforts to maintain peace and unity in Adamawa State.
