Grammy-winning U.S. singer Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to fresh assault charges stemming from a violent altercation at a London nightclub. The charges, which have drawn global attention, relate to an incident that occurred at Tape nightclub on February 19, 2023, where Brown allegedly attacked music producer Abraham Diaw in what prosecutors describe as a “sudden and unprovoked” assault.
According to court filings, Brown is accused of striking Diaw multiple times with a tequila bottle, causing significant injuries. Prosecutors also claim the bottle was used as a weapon during the attack, escalating the severity of the charges. These new allegations have been added to an earlier charge of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, to which the artist has also pleaded not guilty.
Brown appeared at Southwark Crown Court wearing a brown suit and dark sunglasses, acknowledging cheering fans as he exited the courtroom. His trial is scheduled to begin in October 2026, with the next court hearing set for October 24.

The R&B star was arrested in May 2023 at a Manchester hotel shortly after returning to the UK for his European tour. He spent nearly a week in custody before securing release by agreeing to pay a substantial surety, ensuring his return for future court proceedings.
As part of his bail conditions, Brown is required to reside at a fixed address in the UK and surrender his passport to authorities. However, he has been granted temporary access to his passport for travel related to his ongoing world tour, which has seen him perform across the UK, Europe, and is set to continue in North America through October 18.
Brown’s co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded not guilty to similar charges. The two face a legal battle that could shape public perception of the singer, who has faced previous controversies throughout his career.
