In a development following the horrific killing of 13 wedding guests in Plateau State, the Police Command has confirmed that 22 suspects will be arraigned today, July 10, at the Plateau State High Court. The suspects are facing serious charges related to a mob attack that shocked the nation and reignited calls for urgent action against communal violence.

The tragic incident occurred on June 21, 2025, in the Mangun community of Mangu Local Government Area, when a convoy of 31 wedding guests traveling from Basawa in Zaria, Kaduna State, mistakenly entered the area en route to Qua’an Pan Local Government Area. According to reports, the group stopped in Mangun to ask for directions but was suddenly attacked by an irate mob.

The violent ambush claimed the lives of 13 people, including women and children, sparking nationwide outrage and calls for justice from human rights organizations and civil society groups.

Spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed in a statement that all 22 suspects linked to the deadly mob action have been apprehended and are set to face justice in court. He reiterated the command’s determination to pursue justice for the victims and ensure that those involved in the gruesome act are held accountable.

“This arraignment marks a significant step in our commitment to stamp out mob violence and restore public confidence in the justice system,” DSP Alabo stated.

The Plateau State Police Command has come under increased pressure in recent weeks to act swiftly, especially amid growing concerns about communal attacks and mob justice across the region. Security experts say the arraignment of the suspects sends a strong message that mob killings will no longer be tolerated in any part of the state.

As the court proceedings begin, families of the victims and rights advocates are calling for a speedy trial and maximum penalties for those found guilty, hoping that justice served will help bring closure to a tragedy that has left deep scars on the nation’s conscience.
