Lionel Messi has made history as the first player to score multiple goals in four consecutive MLS matches, aiding Inter Miami in their 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution.
The Argentine forward found the net twice in the first half, marking his fourth consecutive game with a double, bringing his total to 14 goals in 15 MLS appearances this season.
Messi’s scoring run began in May, where he shone in a 4-2 win against Montreal and a 5-1 triumph over Columbus, prior to participating in the Club World Cup.
The 38-year-old scored once in four matches as Miami faced PSG in the Club World Cup Round of 16, before returning to MLS with a 4-1 win over Montreal last week.
“I always say Leo is a unique player. For me, he is the greatest player in the history of this sport,” remarked Miami head coach Javier Mascherano.

“It’s incredible because he continues to achieve things that we might not have seen in many years. Ultimately, he’s a special player, and we are fortunate to have him.”
Messi opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a left-footed shot from inside the box and added another goal 11 minutes later, curling it in after a long pass from Sergio Busquets.
Carles Gil pulled one back for the Revolution in the 79th minute, but Miami managed to hold on, moving up to fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
Messi’s scoring streak adds to the numerous MLS records set by the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
He holds the record for the most assists in a single game (five) and the most goal contributions in a single game (six), both achieved during a 6-2 victory over the New York Red Bulls last May.
His total of 58 goal contributions is also a record for Miami.
