The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has announced a partnership with the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) to ensure the swift completion of the 27.1-kilometre Bonny Ring Road and bridges in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Managing Director of the NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku, disclosed this during an inspection tour of the Bonny Ring Road project.

He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure projects, aimed at transforming the Niger Delta region in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

A statement issued on Saturday in Port Harcourt by the NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, highlighted that the partnership with the NLNG is part of a broader mandate from President Tinubu to complete key legacy projects in the region.

While in Bonny, Ogbuku, accompanied by the NDDC Executive Director Projects, Victor Antai, and other directors, paid a courtesy visit to the Amanyanabo of Bonny Kingdom, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, in his palace.

During the visit, the NDDC boss informed the monarch that beyond inspecting the Bonny Ring Road, the commission sought royal blessings for its 25th anniversary celebration, which is set to commence with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, July 6, 2025, in Ondo State.

Ogbuku also announced plans to honour the late Harold Dappa-Biriye by naming a section of the new NDDC headquarters at Marine Base, Port Harcourt, after the prominent Niger Delta nationalist, acknowledging his significant contributions to the region’s development struggle.

Speaking on the economic importance of the Bonny Ring Road, Ogbuku said the infrastructure would help reduce poverty and stimulate economic growth for both host and adjoining communities in Rivers State.

“The project is one of the legacy projects captured in the 2024 budget of the commission, as part of the funds approved by President Bola Tinubu to facilitate completion of major projects across the Niger Delta region,” Ogbuku said.

“The president’s approval covers the Bonny Ring Road, the Kaa-Ataba Bridge, and the Okrika-Borokiri Bridge in Rivers State, among others,” he added.

Ogbuku emphasised that the NDDC is engaging other international oil and gas companies to attract partnerships for large-scale infrastructure projects, stressing that collaboration is key to achieving faster and more sustainable development in the Niger Delta.

“We are collaborating with the NLNG to facilitate the construction of the Bonny Ring Road, the Kaa-Ataba Bridge and the Okrika-Borokiri Bridge,” he said.

“We believe that in partnership with stakeholders, we will achieve more, and development in our region will be faster and more holistic. We are not competing with any state government; we only complement their efforts.”

The Bonny Ring Road, once completed, is expected to improve connectivity, enhance the movement of goods and people, and unlock economic opportunities across Rivers State and the wider Niger Delta region.
