The Kogi State Government has commenced the training of over 2,300 youths in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle conversion technology, a move to reduce unemployment and align with Nigeria’s clean energy transition.

The announcement was made on Friday by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, who revealed that the state-wide initiative spans all 21 Local Government Areas, with training centers strategically located in Lokoja, Okene, Idah, and Kabba.

Fanwo emphasized that the program is not only a pathway to job creation but also a strategic alignment with Nigeria’s national energy goals. Partnering with Sufpay Ltd., the government is equipping Kogi youth with critical technical skills in CNG conversion, a key component of the federal push toward alternative, eco-friendly fuel solutions.

“This initiative is more than just a training program. It’s about creating a new generation of energy professionals ready to drive Nigeria’s transition to sustainable fuel alternatives,” Fanwo said.

He described CNG as the fuel of the future, noting that the training would not only reduce the region’s dependency on petrol but also provide stable employment opportunities for participants. He highlighted the added benefit of curbing insecurity by constructively engaging young people and channeling their energy into nation-building ventures.

According to Fanwo, the skills being transferred through this program will create ripple effects across local economies, boost productivity, and open doors for small-scale entrepreneurs in the growing green energy sector.

“We believe our youth are our greatest asset. This initiative is a direct investment in their future and, by extension, the future of Kogi State. We’re grateful to Sufpay Ltd. for their technical support and commitment to our shared vision,” he added.
