On Sunday, President Donald Trump indicated that the United States might become involved in the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

According to ABC News,Trump mentioned that discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear programme are ongoing, and that Tehran is eager to negotiate, possibly more so now that it is engaged in significant strikes against Israel.

In an off-camera interview with ABC News senior political correspondent Rachel Scott, which had not been previously disclosed, Trump stated, “it’s possible we could get involved” in the ongoing hostilities between the two Middle Eastern rivals.

He also noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered to mediate the situation, saying, “he is ready. He called me about it. We had a long talk about it.”

These comments came amid a significant increase in tensions between Israel and Iran.

Early Sunday, Iran launched a series of missile strikes on Israeli cities, including Bat Yam and Tamra, in retaliation for Israeli attacks that reportedly targeted critical Iranian nuclear, military, and oil facilities.

The strikes resulted in numerous casualties, including several Iranian generals and multiple Israeli civilians.

In Tamra, four individuals, including a child, were confirmed dead due to the missile attack, while rescue teams in Bat Yam continued to search through debris for survivors.

This confrontation marks the third consecutive day of mutual airstrikes between the two long-standing adversaries.

Trump also touched on the ongoing diplomatic efforts regarding Iran’s nuclear programme.

Despite the cancellation of a planned sixth round of US-Iran talks in Oman, he emphasized that communication between the two countries is still active.

When asked about a timeline for reaching a deal, Trump replied, “There’s no deadline,” adding, “But they are talking.

They’d like to make a deal. They’re talking. They continue to talk.”

Trump suggested that the escalating military conflict might actually expedite progress toward a nuclear agreement, stating, “it may have forced a deal to go quicker, actually.”
