Tottenham have formally named Thomas Frank as their new manager, replacing the sacked Postecoglou, who won the Europa League.

The Premier League club has confirmed that Frank, the former Brentford manager, will be their fifth permanent manager in six years, signing a three-year contract.

The 51-year-old Dane, who has been at the helm of Brentford since 2018 and helped them establish themselves in the Premier League, will now lead Tottenham, who qualified for next year’s Champions League after winning the Europa League last month in Bilbao.

In a club statement released on Thursday, Tottenham expressed confidence in Frank, stating that “we are appointing one of the most progressive and innovative head coaches in the game.

“He has a proven history of developing players and squads, and we look forward to his leadership as we prepare for the upcoming season.”

Postecoglou’s success in bringing Spurs their first trophy in 17 years was overshadowed by a disappointing Premier League season, where the team finished 17th with 22 losses, marking their worst performance since their relegation in 1977.

Frank began his coaching career with Denmark’s youth teams before taking over at Brondby in 2013, leaving in March 2016, and later joining Brentford as an assistant to Dean Smith in December of that year.

After Smith’s dismissal in October 2018, Frank was appointed as the manager of Brentford.

“From the moment he took over from Dean Smith, he understood our vision, and his wisdom, coaching skills, and emotional intelligence have transformed the club,” said Brentford’s Director of Football, Phil Giles.

“We will always remember Thomas, but it’s time to express our gratitude and move forward with a new leader who we believe can achieve similar success.”

During his tenure at Brentford, Frank built a high-scoring team that exceeded expectations since their promotion to the Premier League in 2021 through the play-offs.

In the four seasons under Frank, Brentford finished 13th, ninth, 16th, and 10th in the Premier League, with only four teams scoring more than their 66 goals last season.

Known for his analytical approach to player data, Frank and his coaching staff have excelled at identifying talent and selling players for significant profits, including forwards Ollie Watkins, Ivan Toney, and Said Benrahma, as well as goalkeeper David Raya.

Despite losing key players, Brentford has remained competitive in the Premier League under Frank, and last season, they were in contention for European qualification.
