AC Milan has officially sacked coach Sergio Conceicao after just six months at the helm of affairs. The decision comes in the wake of a disappointing season that saw the Rossoneri miss out on European qualification, finishing a dismal eighth in the league.

Conceicao, 50, who was appointed in December 2024 following the exit of Paulo Fonseca, had signed an 18-month deal and arrived with high expectations after a trophy-laden spell at FC Porto. While he made an early mark by guiding Milan to an Italian Super Cup victory, marking the club’s 50th major trophy, the momentum quickly faded.

Despite the initial optimism, Milan’s form under Conceicao deteriorated, culminating in a Coppa Italia final loss to Bologna and a string of poor league performances that left fans disillusioned and management frustrated. With fierce rivals Inter Milan now preparing to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final, the contrast between the two Milan giants couldn’t be more glaring.

The club released an official statement on Friday expressing gratitude to Conceicao and his backroom staff, praising their “dedication, professionalism, and commitment” during a difficult spell. Still, the decision underscores Milan’s urgency to revive its fortunes and return to elite European competition.

As speculation mounts over who will take the reins next, all eyes are on Massimiliano Allegri, the seasoned tactician who led Milan to Serie A glory in 2011 and managed the club between 2010 and 2014. Sources suggest Allegri is now the front-runner to make a sensational return to San Siro.

The news of Conceicao’s sacking and Allegri’s possible comeback has set social media ablaze and sparked intense debate among fans and pundits. With the 2025/26 season looming, AC Milan faces one of its most critical rebuilding phases in recent history.
