Lagos State has formally reported musician Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington or Speed Darlington Akpi, to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) following disturbing allegations of child rape.

The report was made after a video went viral showing the controversial entertainer allegedly confessing to having sexual relations with an underage girl during an Instagram Live session.

The video, which triggered nationwide outrage, showed Speed Darlington making statements that many interpreted as an admission to engaging in illegal sexual activity with a minor.

This revelation has led to calls for urgent investigation and justice, with citizens, civil society groups, and online communities demanding accountability.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) confirmed that it is aware of the incident and has taken steps to escalate the case to federal authorities.

“The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) is aware of the disturbing video currently circulating online, in which a popular entertainer allegedly admits to engaging in unlawful sexual activity with a minor,” the agency stated.

Although the entertainer did not disclose the location of the alleged incident during his livestream, the DSVA emphasized the limits of its jurisdiction to Lagos State and revealed that it had notified NAPTIP, which has nationwide authority and a specialized mandate to investigate and prosecute trafficking and exploitation crimes.

“While the individual in question did not specify the location of the incident during the Instagram Live session, we must clarify that the DSVA’s jurisdiction is limited to Lagos State.

“In view of the above, and in line with our commitment to justice, we have escalated the situation to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP),” the DSVA added.

The agency further reiterated the state’s zero-tolerance policy on sexual and gender-based violence and called on members of the public with any relevant information to come forward.

“If you have any information that may assist with ongoing investigations, kindly reach out to us via our toll-free line 08000-333-333 or send a direct message on any of our official social media platforms.

“You may also contact NAPTIP directly via email: info@naptip.gov.ng or phone: 07030000203,” the statement read.

In a swift response, NAPTIP confirmed via its official X handle that its Cybercrime Response Team has commenced an investigation into the Instagram Live video and other related materials.

“The NAPTIP Cybercrime Response Team has commenced investigations into the disturbing Instagram live video and other videos made by the same individual.

“We at NAPTIP are committed to a world where children are safe and free from all forms of violence,” the agency posted.
