PDP Crisis: Wike breaks silence, accuses Makinde, Mba of sabotage, vows to fight on until justice is served

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has finally opened up on the deepening crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), pointing fingers directly at Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Enugu State Governor Peter Mba as key architects of the internal chaos plaguing the party.

Since the aftermath of the 2023 general elections, the PDP has been teetering on the edge of collapse, grappling with a growing trust deficit among its top stakeholders. According to Wike, the root cause of the party’s misfortunes lies in “dishonesty and treachery” at the highest levels. The former Rivers State governor expressed disappointment over what he described as a sustained violation of gentleman’s agreements aimed at stabilizing and repositioning the party.

Wike detailed his efforts, alongside other PDP power players in the G5, to restore sanity to the party through a series of reconciliation meetings. One such meeting in Lagos saw Wike directly confronting Governor Makinde for allegedly breaching prior agreements and fueling division. Despite tensions, that meeting ended with a resolution to move forward and mend broken relationships.

Further engagements took place in Abuja at the residence of former Senate President Bukola Saraki, where Wike confronted Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed, accusing him of consistently breaking agreements under the guise of his role as Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum. The meeting concluded with critical resolutions, including the affirmation of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary of the party, the withdrawal of all legal cases from Rivers State, and a call for strict adherence to the newly reached agreements.

However, Wike says those resolutions were violated almost immediately. He accused Makinde and Mba of launching a clandestine plan to install Ude Okoye as National Secretary, bypassing the agreed terms and attempting to manipulate the PDP’s National Secretariat to push this agenda. He cited a controversial letter from the Deputy National Secretary convening a NEC meeting as further proof of deliberate sabotage.

Adding to the controversy, Wike highlighted the recent political embarrassment that played out in Jos on May 24, 2025, where a fully prepared zonal elective congress was aborted after INEC refused to attend. The electoral body declined because the invitation letter was signed by the Deputy National Secretary instead of the court-recognized National Secretary, Senator Anyanwu, a move Wike described as “provocative and annoying.”

Wike also expressed personal disappointment, revealing that despite his long-standing contributions to the party since 1998 and the critical support he provided for several governors to emerge victorious in their elections, he has never demanded personal favors. He decried the ongoing betrayal by those he once trusted, declaring that the time has come to withdraw from all previous agreements.

“The trust has been broken. The current charade, especially the debacle in the North-Central zonal elections, proves that these actors are not interested in unity. I will no longer be part of any agreement forged in bad faith. I will fight on until justice is served,” Wike declared.

This dramatic turn of events raises urgent questions about the future of the PDP, as internal cracks deepen and power struggles threaten the very core of the opposition party. With Wike now openly at odds with key figures like Makinde and Mba, and with reconciliation efforts seemingly dead on arrival, the PDP faces one of its most defining battles yet.
