Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have officially teamed up under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to dethrone President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The historic alliance, confirmed by El-Rufai during a public event in Katsina on Wednesday, is expected to redraw Nigeria’s political map and present a formidable opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The three political heavyweights held a closed-door meeting in Abuja on Tuesday night, where they reportedly sealed the coalition deal, adopting the ADC as their united platform for the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the Arewa TechFest, El-Rufai revealed the group’s intentions: “Yesterday at 8 PM, there was a very important meeting of the coalition we’re putting together to ensure that President Tinubu goes back to Lagos.”

El-Rufai further hinted at plans for the future cabinet, praising current Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, as one of the few in Tinubu’s administration worth retaining. “We will still keep Bosun Tijani because he is doing a good job,” he said.
Sources close to the opposition leaders confirmed that the deal was concluded in the early hours of Wednesday, marking a significant turning point for Nigeria’s political landscape.
With Atiku’s deep-rooted influence in the north, Obi’s massive youth following and credibility in the southeast, and El-Rufai’s strategic clout, political analysts say the ADC coalition could emerge as a serious threat to President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
