Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of ‘Operation WHIRL STROKE’, have neutralized a suspected bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a clearance operation in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation, carried out along the Bandawa–Karim Lamido Road, followed a strategic visit to Bandawa community by the Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. Kingsley Uwa.
A statement released Wednesday by the brigade’s acting spokesperson, Capt. Oni Olubodunde, said the brigade commander has emphasised the need for a stronger military presence and proactive security measures in the area.
Acting on his directive, troops launched a fighting patrol that resulted in a confrontation with armed bandits.
“In a swift and decisive exchange of fire, the soldiers neutralized one bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle along with 39 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” Capt. Olubodunde stated.
The spokesperson added that the operation highlights the 6 Brigade’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements and restoring lasting peace.

He further noted that military patrols have been intensified to stabilise the area and assured residents of their safety.
Meanwhile, in a separate development aimed at resolving local conflict, a peace meeting was convened on May 12, 2025, to address rising tensions between the Kashimbila community in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, and Jato Aka in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
Previous clashes between the communities had led to attacks on motorists along the Kashimbila–Jato Aka Road.
The meeting, held at the palace of the chief of Kashimbila, brought together military and police officials, community leaders, and youth representatives from the feuding communities.
The stakeholders agreed to embrace peace and collaborate on measures to ensure the safety of commuters and residents.
The 6 Brigade has urged the public to support ongoing military and peacekeeping efforts by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
