Former Nigerian ambassador to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Alhaji Hassan Jika, has accused Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas of prioritizing luxury projects for himself and select cabinet members while neglecting essential infrastructure and the welfare of the people.
In a telephone chat with our correspondent, Jika alleged that over the past two years, the governor has funneled billions of naira into incomplete and non-essential projects, despite the state government’s claims of limited funds and loan dependency.
He highlighted the focus on Suntai Airport in Jalingo, which he said is used primarily for the convenience of the governor and his aides, and the rapid completion of government lodges and offices, notably the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo, Abuja, and Wukari, as signs of personal indulgence.
“Most citizens cannot afford a N200,000 flight ticket from Jalingo to Abuja,” Jika stated, pointing to the abandoned Namnai Bridge as a symbol of the administration’s disregard for ordinary citizens.
“The bridge, vital to local commuters, remains in ruins since the last rainy season. Meanwhile, the governor avoids the inconvenience by using alternative routes in luxurious vehicles.”
Backing these claims, Rikwensi Muri of the All Progressives Congress (APC) condemned what he described as Gov. Kefas’ failure to deliver on his 2023 campaign promises.

Muri noted the abandonment of key infrastructure projects such as the Jalingo Trade Fair Complex, trailer park, abattoir, Palliative Market, Wukari Chinkai Road, and the Wukari International Yam Market, all of which he claims have seen no progress for over six months.
“The governor has prioritized cosmetic upgrades and personal luxury while projects that affect the masses remain stalled. As he approaches his second year in office, we have yet to see meaningful development for the people,” Muri said.
Responding to the allegations, Gov. Kefas’ media aide, Emmanuel Bello, dismissed the criticisms.
Bello praised the governor’s leadership, citing achievements in security, free education, salary payments, agricultural support, and infrastructure development.
“Governor Kefas governs with humility, transparency, and the fear of God. He is rebuilding the state’s broken foundations with a clear commitment to public service,” Bello stated.
