The Bayelsa Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports of the purported dissolution of the State Working Committee of the party led by Solomon Agwana.

The report also had it that a State Caretaker Committee has been appointed by the Zonal Executive Committee headed by Chief Dan Orbih.

A statement issued by Mr Ebiye Ogoli, State Publicity Secretary of Bayelsa PDP described the development as mischievous and ludicrous.

Ogoli stated : “Much as this matter is intentionally mischievous and ludicrous, Bayelsa State Chapter of the PDP would respond appropriately to the issues raised by these misguided fellows in order to tell the truth.

“To start with, the tenure of the former Zonal Executive Committee of the PDP elapsed on the 13th of March, 2025 and in order to avoid a vacuum a Caretaker Committee was appointed and constituted by the National Working Committee (NWC) on the 13th March, 2025 and headed by the highly respected Chief Emmanuel Ogidi to oversee the affairs of the Party pending the convocation of an Elective South South Zonal Congress of the Party.

“Additionally, the National Working Committee (NWC) had equally pronounced the factional Zonal PDP congress which held in Calabar, Cross River State that produced Chief Dan Orbih as unconstitutional and a nullity.

“We also place it on record that the Zonal EXCO of the Party even when it is properly constituted still lacks the constitutional powers to dissolve a State Working Committee of the Party.

“Similarly, the State High Court which sat in respect of the suspension of Mr. George Turnah has yet to determine the case and in which case Mr. George Turnah still remains suspended from membership of the PDP in the State,”

The party urged members to resist the plans by outside forces to destabilize Bayelsa ahead of the 2027 election

“Our dear Governor, Senator Douye Diri is a patriot who has proven that he means well for the quick transformation of our homeland.

“And the duty we owe ourselves is to continue to support him to deliver on his ASSURED AGENDA for PROSPERITY for us all which is the obligation we owe Bayelsa, and our children yet unborn,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Chairman, caretaker committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bayelsa State, George Turnah, has assured party members of reforms to reposition the state chapter.

Turnah, who stated this while accepting his role as the caretaker committee chairman, vowed to initiate and implement substantial reforms, including an enhanced welfare package for members of the State Working Committee, local government, and ward executives.

The caretaker committee chairman who also doubles as the zonal secretary, South- South in a press statement by his Media Assistant, Kelvin Loveday—Egbo expressed gratitude to the National Vice Chairman of the party in the South-South, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, and the South-South Zonal Working Committee for the trust placed in him.

He assured that he would carry out his responsibilities with utmost respect, humility, and sincerity emphasizing that his primary focus would be to reposition the party to secure victories in all elections in Bayelsa State in 2027.

Turnah indicated that he would consult with stakeholders regarding the need for a more suitable state Secretariat for the party, stressing that he would not be operating from the Super Lodge in Government House, Yenagoa, where his predecessor had been based for the past five years.

He explained that operating from a suitable secretariat rather than from within the Government House would allow him to engage more with stakeholders daily without the protocol and bottlenecks experienced in accessing party officials in Government House.

He also emphasized that his leadership will prioritize increased engagement and consultation with stakeholders while fostering discipline within the Party.

Turnah pledged to maintain an open-door policy aimed at uniting the Party and enhancing collaboration among its members.
