Rotary International, District 9125, has donated two endoscopy machines and their accessories worth N30 million to the gastroenterology unit of the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Kano.
Speaking during the formal handover of the machines on Wednesday, the Rotary 9125 District Governor, Ahmad Sani, said each of the machines cost about N15 million and was funded by the district’s grant to the facility in 2024.
According to him, Rotary is a club of business and professional individuals who aim to address gaps in communities.
He explained that District 9125 has 147 clubs with nearly 5,000 Rotarians.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of AKTH, Prof. Abdulrahman Sheshe, said before the donation by Rotary International, the hospital had only one working machine with others broken down.
He said they received a donation of two towers of gastroscopy and colonoscopy machines, which will go a long way in improving efficiency and reducing waiting times for patients.

While thanking the club for the donation, he said the hospital has subsidized the cost of care, charging only N30,000 compared to other areas where it may cost over N750,000.
He added also that the discounted rate and specialty in that area has triggered the influx of patients from other parts of the country such as Lagos, Port Harcourt, Maiduguri amongst others who come for care.
He said the equipment helps in the diagnosis of cancers, peptic ulcers, and other chronic diseases.
Prof. Sheshe, however, called on other well-meaning Nigerians and philanthropists to emulate what the club has done in order to ensure services go on effectively at the hospital.
