Graduate primary school teachers in Delta State’s primary schools may soon enjoy an upgrade to their salary grade levels, as the state government moves to resolve their prolonged stagnation at Grade Level 14.
For years, despite their qualifications and experience, these teachers have remained stuck at Grade Level 14, while their colleagues in neighbouring states enjoy salary progression upto Grade Level 17.
Sources reveal that the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the new Head of Service, Dr. Mininim Oseji has completed all the necessary processes for the governor’s assent to the new salary progression for the affected teachers.

Once skeptical of the governor’s commitment to their cause, many of the teachers are now hopeful and have begun celebrating the prospect of change under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s leadership.
While some insist that graduate teachers deserve to rise to Grade Level 17 as fair recognition of their academic qualification and years of service, others argue that primary schools should strictly employ NCE holders due to their specialised training in pedagogy.
If approved, the upgrade will not only benefit the affected teachers but also uplift the morale of workers in the education sector, and reinforce the governor’s campaign promise to prioritise education.
All eyes are now on Gov. Oborevwori, who is expected to make an official announcement soon.
