The Delta State Government has announced plans to shut down all unapproved primary schools operating in the state. School owners have been given a 21-day deadline to upgrade their facilities and obtain approval from the Ministry of Primary Education.
This directive was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Theresa Adiabua Oliko, Director of Public Communication and Functioning Permanent Secretary.
According to the statement, any private nursery or primary school that fails to comply will face severe penalties, including outright closure.

“The 21-day ultimatum has become necessary due to the rising number of unapproved private schools. Many of these schools operate with poor infrastructure, unqualified teachers, and unhealthy environments, which are of great concern to the state government,” the statement read.
The government urged school proprietors to act immediately to avoid sanctions. It reiterated its commitment to improving education standards and ensuring that all schools meet the required regulations.
