Forty buildings constructed by the Federal Government for the defunct National Republican Convention ( NRC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) across 21 local government areas in AKwa Ibom State have collapsed while others have been converted to private property by powerful citizens in the state.

The party secretariats scattered in almost all the local government areas of the state were constructed by the former military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida as a two party system experiment to usher in the fourth republic for proper transition of power from military to civil rule .

However, the Federal Government funded the two political parties to insulate them against influences by politicians and guarantee a corrupt free party system .

In Akwa Ibom, some of the party buildings have been converted to federal parastatals and agencies where federal civil servants use as offices .

In Uyo metropolis, the building located along Nwanaiba road is used as office by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency while the state government converted the building along the Abak road axis occupied by the state Ministry of Culture and Tourism as Cultural Centre .

The Trumpet investigations revealed that the party building in Eket located at Eket Oron road before Mobil Airstrip was hijacked by a powerful politician in the area who demolished the building and erected personal structures which he converted to a private Nursery School.

Our Correspondent gathered that the School Proprietor now the chairman of AKwa Ibom state Independent Electoral Commission (AKSIEC) Mr Aniedi Ikoiwak invaded the party Secretariat and chased away two federal government Agencies that occupied the building.

Narrating her ordeal to our Correspondent in Eket on Tuesday, Mrs Imaobong Okon ; a staff of the National Population Commission ( NPC) who occupied the building said they were ordered to vacate the building with immediate effect.

Continuing, she said staff of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC) were equally ejected from the building .

” We were threatened to leave the building as the owner came and pulled down the party building and constructed his own immediately”

” As I am talking to you now , we don’t have any office to sit down and do our work. I am at Immanuel General Hospital and Primary Health Care centre where we just issue birth certificates to children ” she said

” Right now, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have no office in Eket . We were ejected from the federal government property ” she said

Contacted , the school proprietor said the land was sold to him by the community before he converted it to private use.
