As part of events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the University of Calabar and 37th convocation, the institution Vice Chancellor, Professor Florence Obi has announced the award of Honorary Doctorate Degree in political Science to the Minister of the Federal Capital City FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Other awardees are Ekaette Uloama Akpabio, wife of the president of the Senate, Honorary Doctorate award in Education Management, governor of Cross River State,Political Science and Major General Moses Obi, retd, Peace and Conflict Studies.
Obi, also mentioned Hon. Justice Emmanuel Akomaye, Doctor of Law as well as Prince Arthur Eze, Honorary Doctorate in Business Management.
The Vice Chancellor also announced the graduation of 13,786 students with 66 students passing with 1st class degrees, the highest in the last 50 years, 3,143, second class upper division, 7,587, second class lower division, 925, third class and seven passes.
Four students have distinction level, 135 students pass in credit level, 876 Masters degree, Ph.D 572, PGD, 249l and Post doctoral diploma, seven(7).
The awards of degrees are given to those found worthy in character and learning, the Vice Chancellor of Unical, Professor Florence Banku Obi has disclosed.

Obi, stated these while addressing the media to announce the commencement of activities marking the 50th anniversary and the 37th convocation of the institution.
Obi also announced the Induction into Unical Alumni, award of Doctor of Philosophy , Hon Doctorate degrees, Hon Causa as well as Investiture of Emeritus Professors.
Several projects will be commissioned according to the first female Chancellor, who has completed her tenure which includes, college of education complex and fire service station/fire fighting truck.
Others are pharmaceutical and medical pharmacy building and faculty of pharmacy administration building among others.
