The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 14-year-old boy, Ibrahim Sani, with 21 others injured in a gas explosion that occurred at Goron Dutse Quarters, Kano, the state capital on Monday.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the explosion, which occurred around 2:30 pm, at the residence of one Malam Isiyaka Rabiu was triggered by a gas cylinder that exploded.
“The police team, led by Area Commander, Dala Area Command, ACP Nuhu Mohammed Digi, promptly responded to the incident.

“The victims with serious burn injuries were rushed to Gamji Hospital, Dala Orthopaedic Hospital, and Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where they are currently receiving treatment.
“The fire was successfully extinguished through the combined efforts of firefighters and policemen. The area is now generally calm,” the police stated.
While commiserating with the family of the deceased, and wishing the injured a swift recovery, Kiyawa quoted the state commissioner of police, as appreciating the swift response of the police team, the fire service, and the cooperation of the public in preventing the spread of the fire.
