Hon. Patrick Asowieren, the Edo State representative on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Board, has debunked allegations that the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, commissioned a non-existent road project in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.

Reacting to the claims made by some youths in the area, Asowieren described the accusations as misleading and filled with falsehoods. He clarified that the Minister is neither a contractor nor an NDDC official but was merely invited to commission the completed first phase of the road project. He emphasized that the second phase is already captured in the budget, adding that “nobody said the entire project has been completed.”

Asowieren explained that the portion of the road commissioned by the Minister spans 9.8 kilometers, forming the first phase of the larger project. He further clarified that the Oben Road axis is divided into three phases, with only the first phase completed and commissioned. He assured that the Commission would soon commence work on the remaining two phases.

Regarding the 12.18-kilometer Oben-Umugun Road, which links the Benin-Abraka Highway in Orhionmwon, Asowieren confirmed that construction on this section has yet to begin. He urged the public to disregard misinformation and assured that the NDDC remains committed to infrastructure development in the region.
