The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has strongly condemned what it describes as the “terrorist tendencies” of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), insisting that he must be held accountable for the bloodshed of security personnel and northern citizens.

In a statement released on Thursday, CNG criticized Kanu’s recent conduct at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he allegedly insulted the prosecuting lawyer and questioned the integrity of the judiciary.

The group accused him of using inflammatory rhetoric to incite violence, undermine national unity, and destabilize the country.

CNG emphasized that IPOB’s activities, under Kanu’s leadership, have led to numerous attacks on security personnel, government institutions, and civilians.

The group cited several incidents, including the killing of 175 security personnel, destruction of police stations, attacks on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) facilities, and the establishment of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), which it described as IPOB’s armed wing.

According to the coalition, the violence attributed to IPOB intensified during the #EndSARS protests of 2020, with attacks allegedly targeting northern residents, police officers, and public infrastructure.

CNG claims that IPOB’s actions have led to the deaths of hundreds of innocent Nigerians and called on the government to resist pressure for Kanu’s release.

The group also criticized political figures, particularly former presidential candidate Peter Obi, for advocating Kanu’s freedom.

It warned northern voters against supporting politicians who align with IPOB, accusing Obi and other Igbo elites of prioritizing ethnic interests over national unity.

CNG reiterated its demand for international intervention to facilitate a peaceful separation of the South-East from Nigeria, arguing that the continued agitation for Biafra threatens the country’s stability.

The group called on the federal government to ensure Kanu faces justice and to hold Igbo leaders accountable for supporting his cause.

The statement, signed by CNG National Coordinator Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, urged authorities to take decisive action to prevent further unrest, warning that any attempt to release Kanu unconditionally would embolden separatist movements and undermine the sacrifices of security personnel.
