Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has denied viral rumors alleging that he impregnated Big Brother Naija star Nengi Rebecca Hampson. The speculation, which took social media by storm on Monday, claimed that Nengi had secretly welcomed a child for the governor, who is rumored to have four wives.
Amid the swirling controversy, Nengi took to X (formerly Twitter) to shut down the claims, stating emphatically: “Let me be clear, I’m not pregnant for any governor.” However, despite her direct denial, the rumors continue to spread online, fueling heated debates and discussions across various platforms.
Addressing the growing speculation, Dr. Samuel Kolawole Oredipe, the Director-General of New Media to Governor Diri, dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated. In a Facebook post on Monday evening, Oredipe accused political opponents of fabricating the story to distract from the 5th anniversary celebrations of the governor’s Prosperity Administration.

Describing the reports as the work of mischief-makers, Oredipe reaffirmed that there is no personal relationship between Nengi and Governor Diri. He condemned the spread of false information on social media, stating:
“Political enemies of His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, are at work again. What a wicked set of people spreading falsehood on a day the Prosperity Administration commenced activities marking its 5th anniversary.
“Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with the governor. Nengi has come out on social media to debunk the lies. This is a distraction, and some of us are very justified in the many reasons offered to regulate the use of various social media.” he added.
