Residents of Eboh-Iyede in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State are celebrating a major milestone in their community’s development following the successful installation of solar-powered streetlights by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

The project, which falls under the agency’s Operation Light Up Niger Delta initiative, has transformed the once-dark streets, bringing a new sense of security and progress to the area. The delighted indigenes expressed gratitude to the REA for considering their community in the execution of the first phase of the solar street light project.

Hon. Imoniero Emakpor Kenneth, Chairman of Eboh-Iyede Community, could not hide his excitement as he commended their illustrious son, Barr. Chris Oruete, for facilitating the project. He also praised the Permanent Secretary of the agency for ensuring its completion.

“Eboh-Iyede has long suffered from the absence of proper street lighting. However, through divine intervention and the unwavering efforts of Barr. Chris Oruete, we now have solar-powered street lights illuminating our community,” he said. “I was at home when I received a message from him, informing me that the Rural Electrification Agency had secured solar lights for Eboh-Iyede. Today, we are seeing the results, and we cannot thank him and the Oruete family enough for their dedication to our community’s progress.”

Kenneth noted that the impact of the project has resonated throughout Iyede, with residents praising Oruete’s contributions. “His efforts have not gone unnoticed. The entire kingdom is proud of him, and we pray for God’s continued blessings upon him,” he added.

Expressing further appreciation, he commended the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the REA for remembering their community. “We acknowledge the government’s commitment to rural development and pray for more initiatives like this to reach underdeveloped areas.”

While celebrating the new development, Kenneth assured the Federal Government that the solar-powered street lights would be safeguarded against theft and vandalism, a common issue in some communities.

However, he appealed for an expansion of the project, emphasizing that many parts of Eboh-Iyede were yet to benefit. “These lights have not covered even one-third of the community. Like Oliver Twist, we are asking for more. We urge the Federal Government and the Rural Electrification Agency to extend this initiative so that every household in our community can enjoy its benefits.”

With this project, Eboh-Iyede has joined the growing list of Niger Delta communities experiencing the transformative power of renewable energy, marking another step toward sustainable development in the region.
