Reno Omokri on Monday, congratulated Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, for winning the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards.
In an Instagram post, he expressed pride in Tems for representing Nigeria and praised her patriotism.
Omokri called her a role model, urging others to follow her example, while emphasizing the importance of national pride.
“Congratulations, Tems, and thank you for bringing the Best African Music Performance Grammy back to Nigeria. It is so delightful that a proud Nigerian who always speaks well of her country has achieved the rare honour of being a double Grammy winner.

“We are happy for and with you, Tems. If only others can learn from you, they may have their own Grammy to boast of.
”To Win a Grammy as a Nigerian artiste, associate with a Nigerian flag, not the flag of a colonial oppressor, otherwise your ambition will be in shambles!” he wrote.
However, Omokri’s comments appeared to be a subtle jab at fellow artist Davido, who has the Belgian flag in his X bio.
He emphasized the importance of associating with the Nigeria flag and heritage, suggesting that doing so might lead to greater success, like winning a Grammy.
This wasn’t the first time Omokri has criticized Davido. He had previously denounced the singer’s comments in 2024, on a podcast where Davido spoke about the federal government’s failings and warned black Americans against moving to Nigeria.
Omokri accused him of displaying ignorance and a lack of patriotism, suggesting that Davido’s remarks were detrimental to the country.
