Kano State has received a design document for implementation of the maternal and neo-natal mortality reduction innovative initiative to crash maternal and child mortality in the state.
Presenting the document at the end of a five -day workshop in Kano, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, said the design of the document was co-created by various stakeholders to a state specific context to address issues around maternal and child mortality in each state.
He said the intervention was in response to a mandate from the coordinating minister of health to mobilize resources to address the issue across the country.

Dr. Adeyanju said the document looks at all the thematic areas and what needs to be done at the community level and in terms of facilities to create access physically and financially, stressing that when implemented, it will bring the issue of maternal mortality to an end in the state.
While commending the state for its commitment to tackling the issue directly, he said the commitment is reflected in their adoption of the initiative’s plans and their public declaration of support.
Also, a senior official at the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Ashiru Abubakar, said they have reviewed all the available evidence by visiting communities and understand the major issues before proffering the innovative solutions contained in the document, with a view to saving the lives of mothers and their unborn children.
Permanent Secretary of the Kano State Ministry of health, Aminu Bashir, said the workshop has enabled the state to do a deep dive to see the root causes of maternal mortality, assuring of its implementation with support from partners.
