President Bola Tinubu has praised the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) for their unanimous support of four critical Tax Reform Bills currently under review by the National Assembly. In a statement released yesterday by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu applauded the governors for their exemplary leadership and commitment to national unity, transcending regional, ethnic, and political divisions to champion Nigeria’s progress.

The President highlighted Thursday’s collaboration between the NGF and the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy as a testament to the importance of synergy between federal and state governments. Tinubu commended Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, for rallying his peers to back the transformative tax reforms aimed at revitalizing the economy and creating a more attractive investment climate.

Tinubu also acknowledged the efforts of the Progressive Governors Forum, the Northern Governors Forum, and other stakeholders whose bipartisan approach helped resolve controversies surrounding the tax bills. He emphasized that the primary objective of the reforms is to promote Nigeria’s interests, reduce economic burdens on the poor, and position the country as a global investment hub.

Updating Nigeria’s outdated tax laws, the President stated, is a critical step toward achieving economic competitiveness. He stressed that the dialogue between the NGF and the Presidential Committee underscores the power of constructive engagement in resolving policy disagreements.

The governors were lauded as indispensable partners in nation-building, with Tinubu reiterating his administration’s commitment to collaborating with them to ensure economic growth, peace, and national stability. He also encouraged other stakeholders to contribute ideas and suggestions for refining the Tax Bills through the legislative process.

Urging the National Assembly to expedite action on the bills, Tinubu called for swift passage to enable Nigerians to benefit from the reforms without delay. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering a fair and equitable tax system that drives prosperity for all.
