Brentford forward Yoane Wissa has become a key target for both Arsenal and Nottingham Forest during the January transfer window, sparking a potential bidding war for the Congolese striker. The 28-year-old has been in sensational form this season, netting 12 goals in all competitions, including a standout performance against Manchester City.

Nottingham Forest’s interest in Wissa has intensified as uncertainty surrounds Taiwo Awoniyi’s future at the club. With West Ham reportedly keen on Awoniyi, Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo has identified Wissa as a top replacement to maintain their strong Premier League campaign, which currently sees them in third place.

Speaking about Forest’s January transfer strategy, Espírito Santo highlighted the complexities of the window but emphasized the importance of securing reinforcements. “The January transfer window is very difficult to operate in, but we are certain we have a good squad. If Awoniyi leaves, a forward is our priority,” he said.

Arsenal, however, have also entered the race for Wissa as injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka leave manager Mikel Arteta searching for attacking options. Known for his versatility, Wissa can play across the front three, making him an attractive addition to Arteta’s plans.

Wissa joined Brentford in August 2021 for £8.5 million from French club Lorient and has been a crucial part of their squad ever since. His performances this season have drawn widespread praise, with Arsenal and Forest both keen to capitalize on his ability to adapt and deliver in high-pressure situations.

The competition between Arsenal and Forest for Wissa’s signature underscores his rising stock in the Premier League. Fans and pundits alike are eagerly watching this transfer saga, as both clubs vie to bolster their attacking options ahead of a challenging second half of the season.

With the January window heating up, Wissa’s potential move could significantly impact the ambitions of whichever club secures his services. Whether he will stay at Brentford or take on a new challenge remains one of the hottest topics in this transfer window.
