Former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji (Dr.) Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, has announced his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), marking a significant shift in his political journey. In a resignation letter dated January 8, 2025, and addressed to the National Chairman of the PDP, Bafarawa explained that the decision was driven by his commitment to a new chapter of service dedicated to youth empowerment and innovation.

Bafarawa, who has been a longstanding member of the PDP, acknowledged the party’s pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape and nation-building. However, he noted that his recent efforts have been focused on creating a youth-centric movement aimed at inspiring and transforming the lives of young Nigerians, who he described as the bedrock of the nation’s future.

In the letter, Bafarawa emphasized his desire to avoid any potential conflict of interest that may arise from his political affiliations. He expressed his intention to prioritize initiatives that foster innovation and promote values that build a prosperous future for all Nigerians.

This resignation comes as Bafarawa transitions into a new phase of his public service career, focusing on advocacy for the youth and fostering sustainable development. Political analysts have described the move as a bold statement, with many speculating on its potential impact on the PDP and the broader political landscape.

Bafarawa’s initiative aligns with growing calls for increased youth participation in governance and development. Observers believe this move could inspire a new wave of youth-oriented policies and actions across Nigeria, further reshaping the country’s political dynamics.

The development has generated significant interest among political stakeholders and the public, with many eagerly anticipating further details about Bafarawa’s next steps and the structure of his proposed youth movement.
