A release on Monday by the Special Adviser to the governor on Special Duties, Ekpeyong Akiba said that the activities of scavengers pose serious security concerns for citizens.
The release also restated the state government’s position on regulations guiding refuse disposal in the state, especially within the Calabar metropolis.
It noted that 6pm to 10pm everyday remains the period for refuse disposal, adding that enforcement agents have been recruited and will be stationed at strategic refuse points to bring defaulters to book.

Refuse scavengers have been fingered as culprits in the stealing of manholes used in road construction across the country.
Many of the scavengers were recently arrested by law enforcement agencies in Abuja with exhibits.
