More trouble is heading the way of former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, following the revealing of shocking allegations by the Niger Delta Integrity Group of massive looting of the state’s treasury through the execution of fake projects.

The allegations of massive looting by the former governor is contained in a petition dated December 6, 2024, submitted by the group to the federal government through the attorney general of the federation and minister of justice.

The receipt of the petition was acknowledged by the justice ministry on December 9, 2024.

The petition which was signed by the President and Secretary of the Niger Delta Integrity Group, Mr. Ogu Cletus and Aseiyasemor Pente, respectively, called on the various anti-graft agencies to probe the former governor for multiple financial misdeeds.

It stated in the petition that the group has uncovered huge financial misappropriation against Okowa and asked the anti-corruption agencies to interrogate the ex-governor on how public funds were spent by his administration.

The petitioner added that the federal government should not hesitate to prosecute Okowa on the allegations raised in its petition and that necessary actions be taken against him if he is found to have abused public funds while as governor.

The group also raised concerns over some alleged investment reportedly gone into by the state government during the era of Okowa, adding that such investments should be thoroughly investigated to make sure the funds were not diverted.

Also, it demanded that some contracts awarded by the Okowa administration should also be investigated to be certain that they were delivered and according to specifications.

“That Dr. Okowa should be investigated and be called upon to explain with evidence, how he spent loans and what projects they were invested in.

“As law-abiding citizens, we strongly believe that no one is above the law. Therefore we are writing this letter to use your good office to investigate and ensure that justice is done in this case. Alternatively, direct the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (1CPC) or any of the investigative agencies to investigate them,” the group stated.
