The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing critique of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, accusing him of posturing as an all-knowing figure while failing to deliver meaningful progress during his tenure as Governor of Anambra State.

In a statement released on Thursday, the APC criticized Obi for his New Year message, which they described as “a replay of his jangling, gloom-ridden wishlist for Nigeria.” The ruling party claimed Obi’s pessimism and repeated attempts to stir public dissatisfaction are rooted in his realization of the growing political irrelevance of opposition figures like himself.

“While Nigerians celebrated the New Year with hope for a brighter 2025, Obi chose to dwell on negativity,” the APC stated. “His obsessive pessimism stands in stark contrast to the visible strides being made across all sectors under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.”

The APC defended President Tinubu’s ongoing reforms, emphasizing their potential to drive sustainable growth and transformation. The party pointed to Tinubu’s New Year address, which acknowledged the challenges many Nigerians face, particularly regarding food and essential drugs, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to addressing these issues.

The statement highlighted Tinubu’s efforts to lower food prices and boost local drug production, framing them as steps toward alleviating the struggles of Nigerian households. The APC contrasted this proactive approach with what it described as Obi’s “lackluster” record during his eight years as governor.

“It is ironic that Peter Obi, who now portrays himself as the ultimate problem-solver, left no significant legacy in Anambra State,” the statement read. “His claims are misleading and appear designed to score cheap political points rather than contribute meaningfully to national discourse.”

Felix Morka, the APC spokesperson, further accused Obi of fear mongering, asserting that his approach reflects a desperation to remain relevant in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

These fiery exchanges are part of the ongoing political rivalry between the ruling APC and opposition figures like Peter Obi, as both sides vie for public favor and influence ahead into 2027 general elections.
